F/S Blades Custom Tuna spikes are designed to puncture the brain and spinal cord of the fish, which immediately kills the fish and causes it to go into a state of rigor mortis as to not damage the meat. Stainless steel construction designed for saltwater
Tuna spikes are essential tools for fishermen as they serve a variety of purposes. Most importantly, tuna spikes are an ethical means of harvesting/processing fish. They are used to kill the fish quickly and humanely, which is important for both the fish and the fishermen. By killing the fish swiftly, it ensures that the fish doesn't suffer unnecessarily, and it also allows the fishermen to bring the catch on board more safely.
Tuna spikes also are used to preserve the meat. Once the fish has been killed, it needs to be bled and gutted quickly to preserve the quality of the meat. Tuna spikes are designed to puncture the brain and spinal cord of the fish, which immediately kills the fish and causes it to go into a state of rigor mortis. This process preserves the meat and ensures that it stays fresh for longer.
Lastly, tuna spikes make the boat deck safer from a flopping fish. Once a tuna has been caught, it can be quite dangerous if it's not handled correctly. Tuna are strong and can thrash around, potentially causing harm to the fishermen and damaging equipment. By using a tuna spike, the fish can be killed quickly, which makes it easier and safer to handle.
Features
**AEB-L Stainless Steel is used to hand forge these Tuna Spikes. It is a very fine grained steel and has been compared to a stainless O-1 or 1095. Edge holding is minimal (purposeful design as to not injure an angler,) but easy to sharpen back up quickly and will take a wicked edge. It is very tough for a stainless as well.
**Kydex is a line of thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride materials. It has a wide variety of applications, including for aircraft bulkheads, firearm holsters, and sheaths.
